Solar-powered field sensors

In today’s world, farmers need to increase their production in order to meet the demands of a growing population, but at the same time they also must reduce the use of yield-increasing agrochemicals to preserve long-term sustainability. This use case relies on solar-powered plug and play sensors to provide farmers with instant access to data on their soil properties and crop health. These sensors measure parameters such as temperature, humidity, PH value or nutrients and subsequently store the information in online databases accessible through smartphones. Therefore, this use case assists farmers in their planning of the whole cultivation process, teaches modern farming techniques and enables users to grow different types of crop even with a lack of prior knowledge. Hence, it makes decision-making easier as farmers have access to important information, allowing them to save water, alleviate operating costs, reduce the risk of crop failures as well as the use of agrochemicals.

  • Demonstrate system scalability through integration of additional 1500 sensor networks;
  • Improve farm system analytics based on historical data, scientific research, testing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models;
  • Test IoT value chain impact to farmers through a customer-facing mobile app;
  • Engage 50+ Eastern European farming stakeholders and demonstrate system benefits;
  • Provide best farming practice guidance for all major crops;
  • Install 4 sensor networks and run 3 demonstrations;
  • Showcase the product to over 10.000 farmers.
