Interview with Dr. Spyros Fountas

Fruit production represents a demanding task for European farmers. To achieve high-quality end-products, the sector needs to fulfill numerous criteria ranging from the optimal use of resources, fast-track logistics and safe packaging to proper disease and pest control. IoT solutions can facilitate the work of the European fruit farmers in all stages of production, from harvesting to the point of sale.

To showcase the applicability of IoT solutions in the sector, the Internet of Food & Farm (IoF) 2020 focuses on table grapes, wine and olives. We asked Dr. Spyros Fountas, Assistant Professor at the Agricultural University of Athens and technical chair of the IoF2020 fruit trial to tell us more about how IoF2020 will make a difference in the European fruit sector.
