Arable farming represents the largest agricultural sector in the EU and covers rougly 60% of the continents farming land. The arable sector is faced with daunting challenges, such as soil fertility, groundwater pollution and disease/weed resistance. Precision agriculture and innovative IoT solutions can help address these issues by ‘doing more with a less’.
We asked Dr. Corne Kempenaar, scientist in the field of precision agriculture at Wageningen University and Research (WUR), and technical chair of the IoF2020 arable farming trial, to provide us with a glimpse of how IoF2020 intends to address these challenges.
