EIP-AGRI Workshop: Enabling farmers for the digital age: the role of AKIS

Digital technologies can support European farmers in providing safe, sustainable and quality food. The combined performance of advisors, agricultural training and educational systems, researchers and farmer organisations - often referred to as the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) stands out as particularly important to support farm innovation across Europe benefitting from the digital transformation opportunities.

How can AKIS meet the challenges raised by the digital revolution, both in terms of better performance and support to farmers? What new opportunities and innovative tools do digital technologies offer, especially to advisers? How can digital tools be better understood and more accessible to farmers?

These are among the questions which will be addressed on Thursday 26 April – Friday 27 April 2018 in Jürmala – Latvia. Furthermore, the workshop gains insight into how digital technologies can transform AKIS and the opportunities they offer for improved AKIS performance – advice in particular – by identifying good and innovative practices.
